3 Installation
3.1 Installation in Windows
- Start your computer in Windows.
- Connect the enclosed power supply between the box’s power connector and a mains socket. Turn on the box using the switch on the back panel of the box.
- Connect the enclosed USB cable between the box’s USB 3.0 port and a USB port on your computer.
- Windows finds the hard disk itself and creates a new drive. You can use this drive in the same way as any other drive on your computer.
3.2 Installation in MAC OS
- Start your MAC.
- Connect the enclosed power supply between the box’s power connector and a mains socket. Turn on the box using the switch on the back panel of the box.
- Connect the enclosed USB cable between the box’s USB 3.0 port and a USB port on your MAC.
- The dialog box “Do you want to use “(null)” for backup with Time Machine?” appears.
- Click “Cancel” if you do not want to use the hard disk for backup. A new drive is created on your computer. You can use this drive in the same way as any other drive on your computer.
- Click “OK” if you want to use the hard disk for backup with the Time Machine software. Read about the program’s functions in the documentation for your Mac computer.
NOTE: The box must be connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer in order to achieve optimal speed.
4 Troubleshooting
The computer detects the box but no new drive appears.
- Check that the hard disk has been formatted/partitioned. This is done in Disk Management under Computer Management in Windows Control Panel. If the drive has not already been formatted, it can be done here.
- Check that the enclosed power supply is correctly connected and that the box is switched on (see section 3).
- You can try switching to another USB port on your computer. If the box is connected via a USB hub, try connecting it directly to one of the computer’s USB ports.
The box has been installed correctly but data transfer is slower than expected.
- Check that the box is connected to a USB 3.0 port.
- Check that the USB 3.0 port on your computer has full speed available. If, for example, it is a question of a USB 3.0 expansion card for a laptop, the speed will typically be reduced to the maximum speed for the laptop’s card port.
- Check that a USB 3.0 cable is being used, e.g. the one supplied with this product.
- The speed can be limited by the hard disk’s performance.
